I Survived

Robbie
Black Friday and it turned out to be an incredibly good day in spite of the fact I wasn't quite as generous with the discounts as last year. I was handling things by myself this year but luckily a friend came by at a particularly busy time and helped out (Thanks Sperhauk).

Today is Small Business Saturday, something dreamed up by American Express but which I wholly support. We'll see if people have recovered from their hustle and bustle of yesterday to have a more sedate and pleasurable experience today.

And it seems that the recent tradition of "Cyber Monday" has been moved forward and is starting on Thanksgiving, as has Black Friday. I think the big box stores and online retailers just wanted to get more than their share before Small Business Saturday could cut into their business. Even though they cut that same business out of small businesses long ago. Wal-Mart Nation is not such a stretch (and if you've seen those nauseating ads about the people who work at Wal-Mart who doing so well as to have health insurance, bonuses, and promotions, and you haven't heard about the Wal-Mart employees who had to organize fundraisers for many of their colleagues simply to survive, then the power of money and advertising is alive and well).

Thanks to everyone who came by yesterday to find their bargains and Christmas gifts. And to the rest of you, what are you waiting for?

Be well.

Greg

I completely agree with this. "Small Business Saturday" is a bone that big box retailers are willing to throw after their Thursday and Friday sales have run their course.
